HISTORY
OF THE PALO ALTO KNIGHTS
Palo Alto "Pop Warner" history continues with the 45th year of the youth football league named after the legendary Glenn Scobey "Pop" Warner, one of the most successful college level coachs in history. During his Hall of Fame coaching career, "Pop" Warner finished with 316 total College victories and was a Head Coach of Stanford University Football here in Palo Alto from 1923 until 1932.
A strong believer in the value of education and the development
of a well-rounded individual through athletic competition,
Warner expected and received no less from his players in
the classroom than he did on the playing field.
Among many innovations, he developed the spiral forward
pass, the punt, the lineman's blocking crouch, and experimented
with safety equipment in the early days of football... advancements
in everyday use today. In 1975, he was inducted into the
Stanford University Athletic Hall of Fame.
